Youth Lessons
Martial arts like Aikido give children space and opportunity to develop. From working with wooden weapons to taking on teaching or warm-up responsibilities, students are always capable of expanding what they can do.
We provide a safe environment for kids to gently build control and become confident doing things they might not elsewhere.
Doing paired stick fighting practice with each other, rolling out of projection throws, being an assistant to the instructor and taking that extra step from doing the technique to showing others how.
Building Responsibility
Martial arts give children a strong framework for how to begin understanding their own movement.
We often work in pairs, and students must learn how to help their partner by practicing clear attacks and maintaining their balance for as long as possible.
Training like this builds a mindset around how you stand, how you move, and gives children confidence with their bodies as well as insight into their own limits and that of their training partners.
We often find that students will push themselves, once shown how to move safely.
Form and Confidence
Although fighting arts are a serious endeavor, it’s also important to enjoy building your skills and those of your fellow students!
All our classes interleave training with warm-up exercises and tumbling practice, and games which are designed to build things like balance and awareness. Several times a year we also run special events for the children, like summer paper-cutting practice.

Martial arts training offers children lasting benefits.
They’re not just learning to defend themselves, they build self-reliance, discipline and make friends too.
We’re accepting children from 6 to 12 into our program three days a week!

“A heart is full of fertile seeds, waiting to sprout.”
